I read the reviews for this place and most people said breakfast is this place's bread and butter (pun intended?) ...so, I gave it a shot. My GF and I arrived around 11 a.m. on a Sunday, which was perfect timing because a huge flurry of people waited in line after us. We were seated after about five minutes and our drink orders were taken right away. I perused the menu and instantly went for Charlie's Omelet (I love omelets). Inside of it was mushrooms, green peppers, onions, ham, sausage, bacon, tomatoes and cheese -- and the thing was huge. For $7.99 you get a big omelet with hash brows (or grits or pancakes) and toast (white, wheat, rye). I got the hash browns and wheat toast and everything tasted delicious. I can slam a meal but I struggled to finish this one, even on an empty stomach. The hash browns were cooked a lot better than you'd find at most places; not overly greasy and tasted great and fresh. My GF got the strawberry crepes and couldn't finish all of hers, either. She enjoyed them though. For a nice breakfast or brunch, this place has that cool small-town feel and if you show up at the right time and get lucky getting a table, you will eat fast and be on your way. The waitresses are also quite nice and run around to make it an enjoyable experience. Thanks, Charlie, whoever you are!

I came here with the intention of not eating while my friend ordered a Greek salad and coney dog. He was disappointed the coney wasn't a Vienna as he had hoped. The waitress brought out a bread basket with individually wrapped French bread slices, paired crunchy breadsticks, and crackers. I nibbled on the breadsticks and sipped my water. My friends food looked good and he ate all of it so despite what he might say, he seemed pretty satisfied. The service was good. Breadstick game strong.

Okay, so this was my first time trying this place, after hearing all the rave about i figured it was time. I'm sorry to say that i will not be returning due in part to VERY, VERY, VERY poor customer service. The employee over the phone completely rude and impatient. Then going to pick the food up there is no clear area for pick ups, and when you walk through the door expecting to be helped let alone noticed no one there to say hello how may i help you. Very disappointed. Finally the food is only mediocre nothing to rave about there, i should've just cooked at home. Needless to say i will not be going back.

Just a really good family dinning. Love the breakfast. Love the staff. What more can you say. They Should call the waitresses Charlie's Angels. They are all really nice

Good spot for breakfast. Standard diner food, although a tad overpriced. Everything isn't entirely homemade, but I don't think they advertise themselves as such. I'm not the biggest fan of their lunch/dinner food... I mainly only order their breakfast options. The service is always friendly, and quick. I probably wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but it's close to home and convenient for breakfast.

So I've been here a bunch since my last review and it's still all good! Ask for Sarah the head waitress and she'll take great care of you. Some of my favorite items here are the chicken pita (grilled or crispy - both are good), lemon rice soup, and the eggs Benedict.

I have really tried to like this place and am very unimpressed every time I try it. Went Monday night, I was in the mood for a hot beef sandwich. Started with cabbage soup that was very tasty, but barely warm. The hot beef sandwich arrived and it's a very generous portion, served with mashed pot. gravy and vegetable. Now i stack up all hot beef sandwiches against Janets Diner from years ago with fresh made beef etc. Charlies was none of that. The gravy was right out of the can and and when it mixed with the instant potatoes could have been used for wallpaper glue or spackle. The beef for the sandwich was at best old dried out sliced lunch meat from the deli, i got thru about a quarter of dinner then finally threw in the towel.

The mystery still stands. Some think we will never find out the answer at all. The question you ask? Who is Charlie? WHO ARE YOU, CHARLIE!? That being said, their breakfast is pretty good. Always good service. They are a little overpriced for the food that they have. But all-in-all, I think this place is pretty good. I will find you, Charlie.

I would say this place is worth a shot. I have been a few times and it's nothing special but it does have a great selection of food. This place is like a glorified Coney Island.

Always fast & friendly service, and tasty food. This is a great spot for breakfast and lunch. I've been here several times and am yet to have a bad experience!

Best food and coffee you will have here at such a cheap price! It's so good because the owner is in the back checking all the dishes before they go on the platter. Great service and waiters. Recommend it for all.

Eh. I've had better food pretty much anywhere else. Super slow service. Not impressed. Probably won't eat there again.

Breakfast is very good. But don't ask for bacon crispy, they make it breakable. Over cooked. Food is good, waitresses are friendly, and fast. portion s are big. Always come here for fast and good food. Coupons in papers or flyers.

So this place is a bit confusing to me.. .and I might improve my review once I try more things, but I just didn't think the food was up to par with what I expected from a place as nice as this. Having said that, yeah the place is actually really nice, comfortable, with a courteous staff and a quick turnaround for the food. However, the green beans I was served were canned., the mashed potatoes on my plate were overly whipped and thin-tasting, almost like they're not real potatoes but some mashed potato quick restaurant solution for kitchens that don't want to use real potatoes. Hey, maybe they use real potatoes, I'm just saying it didn't taste like that..it doesn't take much to use fresh ingredients, and the food could be so much better. The roast beef on my plate was dry, but the taste was pleasant. I would recommend going, yes, if you don't mind average as a standard for your food. I would go myself once again, but I just don't like eating canned food from a restaurant... it kinda defeats the whole purpose.

We had arrived in the area early for a doctor's appointment and decided to check this place. It was a nice little diner with plenty of seating and room. It was a snowy Wednesday morning, so there wasn't a lot of people in the place, so getting in was quick and easy. The service was okay, and the food was typical of your every day diner food. My wife ordered the Banana Pancakes, and they were a little under-cooked in the middle, but Pancakes with bananas in them are tough to cook right. Overall the food was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to get here, but wouldn't hesitate to stop again if I was in the area... Good place for breakfast!!

I love breakfast!! I love to get up on Sunday morning go grab the paper and find a spot to browse the coupons and fill my belly with eggs, sausage and toast or things on the breakfast side of the menu. Charlie's is close to home and is my regualr stop. I've never had a bad meal here and the service has always been good. I've had other meals here aside from breakfast but I think breakfast here is my fav. My fiance in the midst of planning our wedding love a good deal and meal. So being able to have a great breakfast for 2 under $15 we are happy campers. If you live in the area I suggest you give Charlie's a try. Its good it hot and its clean. Keep up the great work Charlie and we'll keep filling out bellies with your yummy food! OH! get the omlette made into a skillet they put it on top of hasbrowns and cheese!! WOW!! GOOD!!!I Its my loves fav!

This place was right near our Dog Groomer so we decided to get some grub after we dropped them off for their spa day. Right off the bat you notice the decor and it has a very warm and inviting feeling when you enter. The service was great and the food came super fast, but it was lacking a bit in a few spots. I opted for Pancakes instead of Hashbrowns with my Omelette and they were dry, chewy and a little cold. It was as if they had them pre-made and then just plopped them on the plate when they were ordered. Maybe that is why our food came so quick? One of the things I look for in a good breakfast place is the quality of their Orange Juice. This can literally make or break a place in my eyes. Now I understand a lot of places do not want to opt for the good stuff as it costs more so they settle for the kind that comes in a plastic bag that funnels through a machine. I compare it to the stuff you get at the corner store that comes in a Milk jog. It is bitter, tastes nothing like it should and is just down right wrong. It should not be called Orange Juice, but rather Orange Drink. Sadly I must say that Charlies OJ is actually worse than that. It is basically the same stuff, but watered down so they can squeeze out every little ounce of it. It brought on an instant sad face for me. Would we go back here? Probably, but it is not a place we'd drive out of our way for. I have no problem driving a half hour or more to a place if the food is worth it, but for us this place doesn't fall under that category unfortunately. Maybe their lunch and dinner options are better.

Diner done right. The food is good, the service is great. Large menu with lots to choose from. Omelettes are good with many choices for sides (hashbrowns, grits, pancakes or tomato slices). Marinated grilled chicken is always flavorful and juicy. Hubby loves the gyro with chili cheese fries. Dinner specials have been really satisfying too.

Clean, decent for breakfast. Waitstaff nice but they all seem to be new to the English language (I've asked a few questions and just got a smile and they walk away). Food has always been good but if you order the breakfast crepes with asparagus, ask them to give you actual asparagus and not broccoli stems cut to look like asparagus. lol

My son and I went here after his hockey game. He had chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. I had country omelette with sausage gravy. Very generous portions, and food very good as well. As a younger man I would have finished it but not today. Friendly and prompt service as well..

My favorite resteraunt ever, this place has it all- multiple seating options including plenty of booths, a bar and large room for groups. It's the feeing of an upscale cafe with excellent food plus delictible bakery quality desserts prepared by what must be master chefs and out of this world delicous coffee- at diner prices!! Their burgers taste like they were made from actual fresh hamburger you would find at the deli. And I love the fact that even though it's always busy, there is plenty of room and plenty of patient, friendly staff there who always make you feel at home and never rush you. They are also on top of thier game with beverage refills. I cannot say enough about this place, check it out for yourself!

Very good family restaurant -- nothing spectacular, but very good and reliable quality. (Better than a Big Boy or the local Coney Island, and decor is much nicer, too.) Inside is clean, has friendly staff, serves very large portions, and is reasonably priced. We've been there more for breakfasts.

This is a solid family restaurant/diner, and Eastsiders should expect a decent, though not spectacular meal. While everything tastes good, it's not a "fully homemade" kind of place, and it doesn't advertise as such. Value and comfortable variety are the keywords here. Service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very long and narrow, and I think it actually helped that we were seated right near a waitress/soda station. Normally you'd hate that -- but not in this case! I've seen other comments about spotty service, so be mindful that your server will have to walk a ways to get what you need -- that probably sparked the comments. I had a Hunter Burger, which is served on ciabatta with bacon, mushrooms, onions, cheese...oooey gooey good. I asked for it without mushrooms, and this was the only letdown -- they forgot. I ate it anyway, and while the mushrooms didn't detract, they didn't enhance either. I guess that's a wash... My friend had a GIANT corned beef and pastrami sandwich. He only finished half. (In fact, I only finished half my burger.) This isn't the kind of place you'd expect decent deli from, but it worked. He enjoyed it. The meat didn't melt in your mouth, but this isn't Zingermans, so let's be real, right?!? You can certainly count on a good meal from Charlie's. The variety on the menu is huge -- you can find whatever you're in the mood for. Let's hope this restaurant stays around and stops the merry-go-round of restaurants at this location over the past ten years!!!

I happened to be on that side of town to meet a client and, upon my client's recommendation, we had lunch at Charlie's. It was an excellent choice! I always give my ratings comparing restaurants to others in the same category. This is a diner type restaurant. However, you couldn't tell when you walk in. The ambiance is quite a bit more upscale. Food: I ordered a Spicy burger, which was a regular burger with cheese and sliced jalapenos. However, "regular" was irregular here: not the usual soft burger bun you see everywhere but ciabatta bread instead. And the burger itself was big and juicy - it didn't look like there were any funny "fillers" in there but simply meat. And only about $7-8 (if I remember correctly) with fries or onion rings and coleslaw. My client had a corned beef sandwich. Again, it was big and he said was very good. Next time I'm on that side of town, I know where I'll dine.

May I use a sports analogy here? Ok, well every great team needs a superstar or two on its roster, but every knowledgeable sports fan knows that a team's fortunes rest squarely on the shoulders of the "grinders" ...you know, the members of the team who do a solid job every time they're called upon. Fans are rarely, if ever, disappointed in the effort of these types of contributors. That, my fine yelp family, is what we are hoping Charlie's becomes. We happened in this place and were very pleasantly surprised with our breakfast choices ...the Western Omelette was full of fresh ingredients and big enough to take a little home. The "accessories" we're excellent as well ... Rye toast, orange juice and crispy bacon. The other entree we ordered was the blueberry pancakes and our trepidation was based on thoughts of canned blueberries and the tinny, over-sweetened taste they might impose on us. Surprise! Fresh blueberries ...and plenty of them. Two-for-two at Charlie's. Not bad for a shot-in-the-dark stop without referencing Yelp! beforehand. In fact, the only complaint we have about this place is the terribly cramped and oddly shaped parking lot. So ...while Charlie may never be the home run hitter, the 50-goal scorer, or the golden-armed quarterback, we think he just might be the kind of addition to our lineup that will be appreciated just as much.

I have been here twice now, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Nothing was disappointing. I ordered the banana pancakes and they were so filling and good. Other people I was with got the charlie's special. Absolutely no complaints. They give you so much food for a very reasonable price. They also leave you your own pot of coffee at the table, that always wins points. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and the food was fast and good. We were out of there in 30 minutes. For dinner we actually ordered carry out which was a good thing since the place was completely packed. I ordered the chicken parmesan, someone else got the corned beef & swiss sandwich, and someone else got a chicken tender salad. Again, absolutely no complaints. This restaurant has such a good selection of food that everyone could find something they liked. I am very pleased and will be back often.

It is not that it is bad; it is that it isn't all that great. They have a huge menu with equally large portions. I guess that is a good thing. There is a Coney Island on every corner. There are Big Boys all over. There are more chain restaurants than I can list. If it was one of those, the food would be a little bit better.

I've been there three times now and although the food has never been spectacular, the service has continued to go down hill. This last time we arrived at the same time as two other tables. All of us were parties of 6 or more. Both of the other tables had gotten their food and finished before ours even arrived. Almost 25 min between our soup and meal and the waitress didn't come back and didn't apologize until the end. We were there with 4 kids and waiting that long with them there was horrible. I doubt we'll be back. If the service had been better or the food was spectacular, it would be worth another visit, but for processed bulk bought food where nothing is homemade, what is the point?

2nd visit: Food was still excellent. Had terrible service but the waitress manager took over our table and fixed the problem. So we were happy. Clam dinner and Seafood Platter. Double the food we needed and very good quality. Not a drop of grease. Service was excellent once we got rid of little Miss I Am Too Busy for Your Table waitress. So we will go back. A good manager makes all the difference.

So, we have been going to this restaurant since they opened. Food and service are great. But, here's the question. Why do we NEVER get a bread basket? I mean, every other table gets one! It doesn't matter what the other tables order, they get a bread basket! Seriously, is there some hidden criteria? We always tip 30% on our bill so that's not it. Just want to know! !

This is our go-to local diner. The staff is super friendly and we are usually satisfied with our experience. I will say it is super frustrating that they will not allow you to order a carryout from the kids menu. We order carryout from there often so when we are ordering for our 2 year old we go elsewhere. Its a really silly rule.
